I already have a solar panel system. Do I need to replace it to use the EnergyHub system?

Answer:

You don't need to replace your system to use the EnergyHub system.

  • You can supplement your system with an EnergyHub to access dynamic phase balancing, smart metering of import, export, energy usage, etc., and to control and act as a load/peak shaver for electric vehicle charging stations.

  • You can supplement your system with an EnergyHub and a battery. In doing so, you will have the aforementioned functions and will still be able to manage the battery smartly. For instance, if your system starts exporting electricity to the grid, the EnergyHub detects this and can start charging the battery.

  • If you also want to integrate your solar production into the EnergyHub system, you can supplement the system with Ferroamp's solar string optimizers (SSOs). They can handle most panels on the market as long as the maximum current (Impp) for the panels is max 14 A.

Considerations:

Some inverter manufacturers use panel optimizers that are only compatible with inverters of the same brand. These are then mounted on each panel and must be removed before the panels can be connected to Ferroamp's solar string optimizers.

You can read more about how to design your system under Installation and Dimensioning.

Tools:

You can use our SSO calculator to determine how many SSOs you need for your solar panels. If it concerns bifacial or glass/glass panels, please contact Ferroamp's design department for assistance.
